E3: Strong showing for Xbox Kinect
Nintendo may have announced the new Wii U at E3, but Microsoft’s next wave of Kinect games is looking particularly strong – with the controller-less device still head and shoulders above anything else right now in terms of technology.
Kinect Star Wars, Kinect Disneyland Adventures, Kinect Sports Season 2 and more are being showcased at the Convention Centre here in sunny Los Angeles.
Even better, this year’s FIFA, Tiger Woods and other key EA Sports titles will finally get the Kinect treatment. Gears of War 3 and the forthcoming Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will also have compatible features to enhance the gaming experience – such as drawing your pistol and giving your squad voice commands. Every year it seems we’re getting that little bit closer to Minority Report!
In addition, YouTube is finally being added to the Dashboard in a big update later this year, along with more voice-activated controls, Bing web searches and live TV programming. No news yet on whether Skype will be added into the armoury but watch this space…
So whilst the likes of Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, Mass Effect 3 and Gears of War 3 (bit of a theme here?!) are stealing the show in terms of buzz, I’ve been most impressed with the little black box of tricks.
