Medal of Honor

What some consider to be once the master of the WW2 first person shooter, disappeared from our release calendar some 2 years ago without any mention of a follow up to the quite dreadful Medal of Honor Airborne. But now, it’s coming back and hoping to recapture the glory days as EA are breathing new life in to what was a tired franchise and going Modern Warfare on ya ass.

Some new gamers (those that joined in the last year or two) may never of heard of the Medal of Honor franchise but it truly was one of the greats. Around before Call of Duty and leading the way in the FPS genre until a promising idea turned into an ugly reality. You see, the reason MOH hasn’t been spoke of much is because when Call of Duty went all Modern Warfare (in what was considered a brave move) and really changed FPS, MOH decided to stay in WW2 (not a problem as there were plenty of places still to go) and introduce the idea of parachuting into the action.

You could land wherever you pleased and that is where you would start the mission from, meaning each person’s game could be individual. Unfortunately the implementation was poor and the game flopped. Call of Duty quickly became the lead FPS and everyone thought MOH had suffered a fatal wound and would be buried, leaving Dead Space and Battlefield filling the void.

However this is clearly not the case with a re-invented MOH coming to you in 2010. The single player is being developed by EALA with online being developed by DICE (those great guys that do Battlefield). With 2 disappointing Call of Duty games being released consecutively (the critics might have loved Modern Warfare 2, but I think they are the only ones) this could be a great time for MOH to come back and retake its place in peoples hearts.

A teaser trailer is available below. No firm release date yet but I expect this to be fall 2010. Why? EA already have Battlefield Bad Company 2 due for release in March, to put another FPS up against it could detract sales.
