Review: We Dance

Comments No Comments

In the cluttered dance game market, can We Dance stand out from the competition as we approach Christmas? We put on our dancing shoes and find out…

Another dance game for the Wii then, this time aiming more the yummy mummy brigade with an eclectic array of retro tunes and pop smashes.

With the option to play in 3 differing ways (mat, controller or a combination of the two – which increase in difficulty) there’s something for everyone here, with well choreographed dance routines.

There’s a good variety of songs (these might be geared more to a 30 something year old rather than a teenager) but there are newer tracks too – everything from Spice Girls and the B52’s to Outkast and Pixie Lott.

You get the useful option of a warm-up program every time at the start to get you in the zone, as well as a dance school option – You can learn the dance moves before you do them properly

Songs are given a rating out of 5 stars ( 1 star easy – 5 star difficult), and with multiplayer and a leaderboard, it can all get competitive and a lot of fun (especially after a few glasses of vino). There’s also options to download additional tracks.

On the downside, the dance mat can be a bit temperamental in the dance school lessons mode and is quite big – so there is a lot of ground to cover, especially for children.

The dance moves aren’t very clearly demonstrated and therefore not easy to understand and to copy. Frustratingly, instructions are sometimes difficult to understand (especially in party mode). And of course, the mat is bulky to store so be warned!

Overall though, this We Dance is a fairly good game. We loved the song selection which is very iconic and has mass appeal (Who doesn’t love a bit of Rhythm is a Dancer?!) .

Older kids will probably not find it hip enough but might still enjoy the retro feel of the songs. At the right price, it’s a fun game for a girls night in as the songs are brilliant.
